How a water softener works
![]() A water softener works by passing incoming hard water through a resin vessel - a sealed container containing ion exchange resin beads. These beads attract minerals (such as calcium and magnesium) from the water and stops scale and scum getting into your system. These would otherwise accumulate on heating elements - raising fuel costs and reducing efficiency as well as causing other problems associated with hard water. When these beads become saturated, they need to be cleansed with a weak brine solution. The brine and previously collected scale and scum are then sent to drain. At no stage does the salt come into contact with the water. A special water softener salt needs to be used which is 99.9% pure; Hydrosoft salt tablets both cleans the resin beads and regenerates them and is available from a nationwide network of suppliers. A Hydrosoft water softener is fully automated and has a number of inherent features that provide soft water round the clock. Click here for more details. |
